How to Wash Living Stone Pillows?

Making pillows is always a fun and having a customized stone pillow made by your self is always a source of joy as they are easy to make and durable at the end. It will help you to have a new theme of stone pillows for your room. Getting rid of orthodox woody furniture for decorating your home which is now boring for your room and those who have a huge interest in unique home decor and always wanted to have something new and versatile decoration for home, then they would go for having DIY stone pillows.

Rock Pillows are made up of plain and soft plush fabric, EPE Pearl Cotton lining and soft stuffing having an eye-catching rock like colors. You can have it in any fancy color, but if you are going for rock pillows, then you are going to have the rock colors like grey, black or a combination/ shades of these colors.

The fabric, stuffing and lining all are so durable and long lasting that you are going to enjoy them for years. But even the durable and reliable things need to be carefully handled and washed so they can have their full life.

Pillows mostly get dirty because of the oil spots, sticker marks, and sweating. People have different washing habits for their pillows. It all depends on the seasonal conditions and also the location of your home. If your pillows get dusty quickly, then you can wash them often and vice versa. Washing your pillows keeps them fresh looking and also if you wash them often you are going to have a fresh and healthy sleep. Living in a warmer area leads to wash them 4 to 5 times in a year but if the location or area of your home is not that dusty you can wash them 2 times in a year.

Washing the pillows will help you to avoid viral infections and skin diseases. It also maintains the cleanliness and hygienic environment of your home. Make sure that you wash the pillows on sunny days so enough sun rays can be provided to the pillows.

What do we need to wash pillows?

  • Pillows
  • Hot water
  • Mild Liquid Detergent/ Washing Powder
  • Baking Soda
  • Fabric Softener or White Vinegar
  • Laundry Balls
  • Washing Machine
  • Spinner
  • Dryer Stand


Read The Label/ Tag:

The first thing which we need to do is to carefully read the label/tag on which there are mentioned the precautionary measures that how we should wash the particular object. It gives you a complete idea about the steps you need to follow whenever you are going to wash a pillow. Every pillow is not machine washable and has its special instructions to be followed.

Dip into the hot water:

Secondly, what we need to do is to dip the pillows into the warm water so that the spots get lighter and easy to remove when you put them into the washing machine. Because it is possible that some spots cannot be removed by washing machine unless you put them into the warm water so that they get lighter.

Gently rub the pillows:

Rub the pillows gently with hands specifically from the corners and also from the places where there were spots of oil, sticker or sweating. Rubbing the pillows with hand first will make sure that pillows will get clean properly and none of the spots will be left over.

Place the Pillows into the machine:

Now place the pillows into the machine. Placing two pillows at a time would be helpful to keep the machine balanced while washing. It also depends on the size of the washing machine that if you can add two pillows at a time or not.

Add Mild Liquid Detergent and Baking Soda:

Now add 1 cup of any of the mild liquid detergent or washing powder and also 1 cup of baking soda into the machine. You can also use white vinegar and fabric softener

Clean the Machine and Adjust mode:

Before placing your pillows into the machine, you need to clean every corner of the machine so that your pillows don’t get any dirt from it.

Adjust your machine’s mode accordingly. You can adjust your machine’s mode for 30 minutes, the temperature of the machine at hot and spin mode slow because if it is fast, it will twist the pillow and can damage its shape.  It is the most suitable mode for the pillows. Place two clean laundry balls with the pillows in the machine to avoid twisting. Cover the balls with the socks and put them in the machine with the pillows.

Cover the lid now and turn your machine on.

Once the washing cycle is complete, the machine will automatically turn off. Open the lid and turn the sides of the pillows, i.e. inside out. Now again start the cycle for the other side.

Dry Pillows:

Now dry your pillows in the spinner to get it dry instantly.

Place the pillows on the dryer stand:

Now place your pillows on the drying stand. It will allow the air to pass through the pillows from both sides.

Place the stand under the Sun rays:

Now place the stand under the sun rays to let it dry. Placing it under the sun rays will provide it excess air and sun rays. Sun rays will also kill the bacteria of the pillows and gives them a fluffy look as like new ones.
